This is really cool. I guess I'm pretty slow but I've just learned about light painting and I love it. Just tried to do a few with my cheap point and shoot and cellphone light. Not great but not bad lol. I love how you used those orbs for the reflection. Very awesome. Saw a previous comment about a mirror. I am definitely going to try that.

Cool. It's nice and simple, yet interesting.
I did a little darkroom/light painting stuff a while back, but after seeing some awesome pictures people did I really want to go back and do more with it.

Thank you - They are metal spheres, so chewing is not recommended :) I agree the warm, brown tones are very "chocolatty"

i was wondering... did you make these spirals freehand? or used something to make them so perfect? :D mine usually don't turn out so nice...
Reply
:icondownhillfrenzy:
downhillfrenzy Featured By Owner Jul 29, 2008
The spirals are freehand, but what you don't see are the "too many to view" shots where something didn't "pan-out"! It may sound cliched but it really is patience & luck. I did find having a brighter light source enabld me to drop the exposure time and this may help the "smoothness". I used a "maglight" type torch from B&Q hardware store with the bulb exposed. It used 2 AA size batteries. Good luck with the next shots :)

thanks for the reply ;) unfortunately i'm only able to use 15s 30s ando 60s exposure time in my lumix lz5. gotta keep practicing :D thanks again

Thank you for the comment it is much apprecaited - and sorry for taking so long to reply :( shoddy, shoddy! Light source was a "maglite" type torch from B&Q hardware store. You can unscrew the "head" to reveal the bare bulb. They come in a few sizes, the one in this shot took 2 AA batteries. I hope this is of some help.

Amazing.. i wish i could do something like this... Is this possible with my canon s5is? :) i really love to try it.
Reply
:icondownhillfrenzy:
downhillfrenzy Featured By Owner Jun 2, 2008
Thank you. I am sure the Canon S5is has manual settings, just start with a 30 second exposure and aperture F8 and see what happens. It's fun to play with longer exposures and different apertures just to see what happens. Good luck :)

Hey, thank you for the :+fav: . It seems like a hundred years ago since I did those - and I don't know if I have learned anything since :) Once I get the project work for my AS course done (gotta be in for 21st April !!) then I hope to get into "playing" with the camera.

Sounds good, I'm doing AS photography atm, which exam board are you with/what did you choose as your project focus?

I'm doing an AS AQA part-time course. Exam project will be "recording objects" so lots of "Heath Robinson" set-up's in the kitchen trying to capture water drops etc. Previous two projects, forcourse work, were on Paths and Chaos/Order. What exam board are you with ?
